Capt. Rick Trussell of Vulcan Charters got into some mighty fine Snappers this past weekend.
There was a phenomenal turn out for the federal red snapper season as we imagined. Most anglers caught their limit. Some also found some grouper, large triggerfish, and cobia to add with it. Weather conditions look favorable for the last day, and many are planning to take advantage of it. Trolling has been kind of slow with a handful of dolphin, and a few king macro, and barracudas being caught.
Our overachiever daughter Katie Lytwyn with her 30lb Snapper. She had the biggest fish of the day.
Surf fishing is mostly Whiting and occasional small shark. Piers are holding some black drum and redfish along with a few flounder back underneath the piers.
Fishing the inlets is producing a few redfish, black drum and some mangrove snapper. Early morning or night time activity is producing a few snook and a couple tarpon. Fishing the tide line just outside the inlet is producing some nice king mackerel, and tarpon, too.
Inshore fishing is also on the slow side with a few growth snappers, a couple of sheepshead, and an occasional redfish. Try to get out early or fish the evenings, which are slightly more productive.
Let’s go get em!!
