A nice redfish caught on a recent trip with Capt. Patrick.
The backwaters of New Smyrna Beach have really came alive in the past few weeks. We have a great number of bait pods flowing through the area along with a good shrimp run this last month, as well. All this bait brings the game fish through — and they have been chewing well!
The redfish have been cruising shorelines throughout the Mosquito Lagoon, and with the good water clarity we have at the moment, spotting them has been a breeze. We still have some large schools of black drum and a great number of trout, as well. These fish are looking for easy prey across the flats, just keep your eyes open for them.
A little further north, the ICW has been invaded by schools of jacks and bluefish, which always make for a fun fight. Pitching both live and artificial baits around the structure will also produce several other species, too: snook, redfish, trout and even flounder.
They say the UV light kills the coronavirus, so what better way to social distance and cleanse yourself with the suns UV’s then a day of fishing?
