Mangrove snapper are among the active species on the reefs.

The weather hasn’t been very cooperative this past week for fishing, but the water has definitely warmed up and the fish are here! We’ve caught some nice fish lately when we can make it out. Our primary catches have been dolphin, kingfish and cobia and the barracuda are here now, too.

The bottom bite has been nothing short of fantastic! The key is getting these fish to the boat. The sharks and barracuda have been on high alert. Once you’re hooked up, you need to reel like crazy to get these fish up quick. You can’t let your guard down even when you think you are past the sharks. It’s not unusual to have a goliath grouper escorting your catch to the boat only to engulf the fish at the top and take you back down to the bottom again. What a wild ride that is!

Towards the end of this week the weather looks like it will settle down quite a bit. Hopefully, we will start to experience more days with calm winds as we transition into our summer weather patterns so give us a call or visit our website to book a trip and let’s go catch some of these awesome fish!
