We've been doing pretty well in the surf this week!
This week, we have more fronts moving through the area kicking up the surf and pushing strong currents. However, even with the higher surf, a strong south to north current, and dirty water, the bite has still been great. For the Apollo/Playlinda beach area, the better bite has been in the afternoon on the outgoing tide as the water cleared up. The bigger schools of pompano have moved into the Brevard County, as the fish continue following that magic number of 72-68 degrees.
For those that like to chase the sharks on the beach, Bethune Beach has been loaded with small blacktips and lemon sharks. Remember, if you plan to target sharks off the beach, you must have you shore line shark permit.
Around Ponce Inlet, we’ve been catching flounder flounder, bluefish, black drum, and some nice upper slot redfish right off the beach and sheepshead near the rocks. Be sure to take advantage of the great weather window and low surf projected mid week.
The baits of choice lately have been:
- Fresh dead shrimp
- Live sandfleas
- Fresh crab knuckles
- Fish bites (sandfleas, shrimp, and crab flavors)
- Cutbait
- Finger mullet
