The spotted seatrout bite continues to produce in the New Smyrna Beach lagoon system.
We have definitely entered our summer time pattern here in New Smyrna Beach with hot summer days and afternoon showers. The bite has been good early in the morning and tapers off as the sun heats up. We have been boating a mixed bag of species from spotted seatrout, redfish and jacks to snook and the occasional tarpon. The Mosquito Lagoon has been holding a lot of bait over the past couple of weeks which has produced an especially strong trout bite. Both artificials and live bait have been working well to solicit a strike — just remember to always “match the hatch,” as they say.
If you can catch an outgoing tide in the early morning hours, focus on targeting areas of structure, and you shouldn’t have much trouble finding the fish; if bait pods are present, even better yet. Good luck and great fishing this week!
