Offshore anglers have enjoyed the calm ocean conditions. Trollers have found scattered dolphin in shallower depths, usually around weed lines or temperature changes. Over the reefs, they have been picking up king mackerel and a few barracuda. Bottom fishing has remained pretty strong on the reefs where grouper, several varieties of snapper, triggerfish, and more have been quite abundant.
The inlets and nearshore activity is still pretty active. Tarpon have been seen just outside the inlet, along with a few king mackerel. In the inlet, black drum, redfish, and mangrove snapper — along with a few flounder — are being caught. At night, the snook and seatrout have been stacking up around the inlet.
Surf fishing has slowed up a bit. Mostly whiting, small sharks, and spots are being caught. Stick with the traditional pompano rig baited with shrimp, sand fleas, or fish bites.
Inshore, morning and evening activity has increased. Snook, ladyfish and trout for being caught around the bridges and lighted docks. The Tomoka and Highbridge areas have seen an upswing this week. With more black drum and red fish being caught. The north bridge in New Smyrna Beach has seen an upswing with snack activity lately also, with more black drum and redfish being caught.
We live in a great place with lots of fishing variety, so let’s go get em!
