Fished Saturday morning at Bethune Beach, water conditions where extremely clear, light current and the incoming tide.

Lots of the larger sized whitings, a few pompano, and palmettos were caught up and down the beach. Bait of choice was fresh dead shrimp, clams, sand fleas and pink shrimp flavor Fishbites.

We did get into some of the smaller coastal sharks (sharpnose and fine tooth) in the afternoon just past the first sand bar.

For the surf rigs, we used a standard high low rig and 4oz weights to hold bottom. Remember if you plan to target sharks for the beach you must have the land based shark permit course from the FWC website.

Byran is a professional surf fishing and land based shark fishing guide based out New Smyrna Beach, FL. Call (386) 216-8025 to book a trip, or visit Southern Bred Fishing Charters on the web.

Thanks for the report. I need to get out there, I hear it’s really going off on the beach right now. Not too far south from you, somebody caught a big old kingfish right in the trough this weekend.

Primetime for summer fishing on the beach! I was able to get into some Pompano on Friday a little north of Ponce, too. Later this week I’m gonna try targeting some of the big game out there.
